Call Me Crazy - But Coffee May Just Be Healthy!
Study this or study that, but a NEW study, published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, shows that our favorite brew can actually reduce your chances of developing Alzheimer’s or dementia.
The University of Kuopio, a Finnish institution with particular strengths in biotechnology, biosciences and molecular medicine, conducted a study on 1400 Finnish adults.
The school wanted to discover if differing levels of coffee consumption could be linked to dementia risks. The subjects were tracked over a period of twenty years recording their coffee habits and health markers.
Approximately one-half of the subjects were middle-aged when the study began and drank about three to five cups of coffee per day, while the other one-half did not drink any coffee.
When comparing the group that drank coffee to the group without coffee drinkers, the coffee drinkers were found to be roughly 70% less likely to develop dementia.
Alzheimer’s is the best known of the dementia ailments so it is inferred that coffee drinkers may be less likely to develop that debilitating disease.
Of course, a direct link between coffee and the reduced risk of dementia cannot be made, but it is certainly inferred.
Much talk has been made over the years about whether coffee was dangerous swinging back more recently to having known healthy components like antioxidants. But like all things in life enjoy coffee in moderation.
Have the BEST cup ever!
