Coffee, Chocolate, and Facebook

There seems to be some new addictions for our cousins “across the pond” in Great Britain.  Nope, it’s not sex, drugs or rock-n-roll.  According to a new study into modern lifestyles, Britain’s new addictions are coffee, chocolate and Facebook.

The study researched the lifestyles of under 30 people in Britain.  The participants were asked to complete a survey asking what habits and substances most of their money was spent on, those that each had attempted to cut down or give up entirely.  All of this information helped researchers determine the modern impulses that, in 2009, ruled their lives.

Coffee, our friend, was number one of the ten most common modern addictions, followed next by chocolate, and the social networking site Facebook coming in at number three.  Probably the most eye-opening fact was that the “evil twin” vices of drugs and alcohol did not place in the top ten.

Rounding out the top five, number four was vanity (spending money on beauty products) while checking bank accounts online came in fifth.

These results are quite revealing! Where is beer on this list?
Actually, I’m not too surprised as coffee, facebook, and the consumption of chocolate are nearly daily activities in our household. I do have to say that I would give up facebook and chocolate before I would ever give up coffee!
